The world’s tallest solely student accommodation facility, 480 Elizabeth Street in Melbourne’s CBD aims to provide alternative affordable accommodation to students within Melbourne’s CBD whilst encouraging student interaction and a well-balanced lifestyle, coinciding with retail and commercial opportunities.
Predominantly for self-catered apartment style living, the building has been designed to offer a variety of living accommodation options, from self-contained studio apartments to multi-share apartments and twin share rooms.
Architecturally, the building took a form where it acknowledges its primary structure, embracing the internal planning to provide a façade that is a true representation of its function. Flexible study spaces, roof terrace, gym, wellness centre and lounges encourage socialisation for students whilst ensuring a well-balanced lifestyle that coincides with their academic studies. A through block link at the podium levels provides a link to the rear laneway that encourages pedestrian movement into the site and breaks up the podium façade to be sympathetic to its immediate neighbours built form. Retail and commercial opportunities to the laneway provides activation at street level and adds a new destination to Melbourne’s street life.
