Cumberland West Mental Health Services

Cumberland Hospital is one of the four hospitals forming the Westmead Health Precinct, and provides subacute and non-acute mental health inpatient rehabilitation services.

The built form is founded on designing a refreshing and modern building that reacts to the needs of the hospital community and its suburban urban surroundings. The materiality addresses the large scale and mass of the building, whilst relating in form and detail to other similar and smaller scale structures on the campus.

The interior design provides varying spaces for group activities and therapies as well as places for individual contemplation and identity. Access to light, ease of observation, and simplicity of wayfinding were key design drivers.
