Fire & Rescue New South Wales (FRNSW) is the State Government agency responsible for the provision of fire, rescue and hazmat services in cities and towns across New South Wales. FRNSW is one of the world’s largest urban fire and rescue services and is the busiest in Australia. The FRNSW Training Academy is a new state of the art facility created to address future directions in fire and rescue training and tuition, with a capacity to accommodate 100 students. The design of the workplace for administrative staff on Level One is based on the principles of wellness and collaboration.

Located at the entry to First Estate, the Training Academy is a statement structure for the industrial precinct, accentuated with a distinctive 14m brick corner façade. The approach and scale push the boundaries of traditional brick application into commercial design. A carefully curated finishes palette comprising of natural materials and patterns, maximised transparency and access to daylight through careful space planning, and a focus on creating a fitout that actively supports health, knowledge and awareness, were pivotal in achieving a successful workplace design.
