UniLodge, Victoria University

UniLodge at Victoria University is a 508 bed student accommodation facility located in Footscray, Melbourne. A range of self‐contained accommodation types are provided including six bedroom, two bedroom, studio and accessible apartments. Common spaces are provided on every level to cater for student study and recreation with every second floor supporting a double height communal hub.

The Victoria University campus in Footscray has an academic focus on sport and health sciences and engineering. This is reinforced architecturally by creating student housing that expresses the scientific nature of the university in a fun, lively and playful way.  The design was influenced by a “DNA” theme to create an environment that fosters movement, interaction and self‐expression.

The molecular strand was recreated by forming ribbon type structures and graphics that connect spaces to one another. The design incorporates hard, reflective surfaces such as perforated metal, polished concrete and perspex panels which enhance the scientific theme and promote an interactive environment.
