Blackwater Multipurpose Health Service

Blackwater, Queensland, has ushered in a new chapter in rural healthcare with the official opening of the Blackwater Multipurpose Health Service on January 31, 2025. The facility replaces the town’s 50-year-old hospital, marking a significant milestone in the Queensland Government’s $14 billion Building Rural and Remote Health Program.

A new era in rural healthcare

Blackwater Multipurpose Health Service integrates emergency, inpatient, aged care, and outpatient services into a single, modern facility. The modular design, developed in collaboration with Hutchinson Builders, allows for future expansion to meet the growing needs of the community. The facility includes a 24/7 emergency department with six treatment spaces, an inpatient ward, six residential aged care beds, medical imaging, outpatient services, dental services, and additional consultation rooms.

The new facility is more than just a building; it represents a commitment to the health and well-being of the Blackwater community. Community members and staff were actively involved in the design process, choosing the color scheme and contributing to the facility’s homely touches.
