Drummoyne Workplace
Undertaking a comprehensive refurbishment of Drummoyne Workplace’s office space, with a goal to infuse the environment with a new aesthetic that spoke of depth, a sense of moodiness, and a touch of opulence that would reflect the company's evolution and aspirations.
nettletontribe meticulously developed a strategy that would deliver two distinct atmospheres within the workplace, thoughtfully balancing the need for both formal presentation and informal interaction. For the reception area, boardrooms, and formal meeting rooms where clients and important discussions would take place, we curated an elevated material selection. This included the rich veins of marble that convey prestige, reflective black mirrors that add an element of depth, and dark timbers that offer warmth and richness to the spaces. Each element was chosen to foster an ambiance of sophistication and exclusivity, ensuring that these areas leave a lasting impression of refinement on visitors and staff alike.
Meanwhile, the ethos for the staff breakout spaces diverged from these formal tones, embracing a more relaxed and rustic charm. We created a contrasting yet complementary environment where employees can unwind and socialise. The design intentionally highlights the building’s industrial heritage, featuring the exposed ceiling trusses that provide a visual connection to the authentic and raw aspects of the structure’s past.
By juxtaposing luxurious finishes with industrial elements, the new design rejuvenates the office environment, crafting a workplace that resonates with elegance, inspiration, and history, all while catering to the multifaceted needs of a contemporary workspace. Through this careful orchestration of space and materials, the renewed office stands as a testament to the client’s progressive ethos and commitment to providing an exceptional work environment for their team.
Integral to the building's character are its architectural details, a plywood soffit ceiling underlaid by a network of timber trusses with mechanical ducts visible above, creating an aesthetic interplay of form and function. One of our most adventurous design recommendations involved painting this soffit black. Such a bold choice enhances the perception of space and volume whilst also serving to foreground the intricate pattern of the trusses. This transformation not only redefined the workspace's ambiance but also created a visually stunning effect that draws attention to the craftsmanship of the underlying structures.
