Moranbah Hospital
The addition of Moranbah Hospital has upgraded Moranbah's healthcare infrastructure. Part of the Queensland Government’s $943.5 million Building Rural and Remote Health Program, this project enhances medical services for the Bowen Basin community.
Moranbah Hospital, constructed by Hutchinson Builders, is designed to replace the existing hospital while maintaining operations during construction. The completion of the project revitalised the outdated structure. The redevelopment includes an expanded emergency department with increased treatment spaces, improved medical imaging services featuring a CT scanner, and a helipad to facilitate efficient patient transfers.
The redevelopment supports over 100 construction jobs and was completed in January of 2025. This project underscores the Queensland Government’s commitment to providing world-class healthcare services to regional communities. By integrating various health services into a single, modern facility, the Moranbah Hospital can now provide improved patient care, streamline operations, and support the growing needs of the Bowen Basin region.
Inside, the hospital houses an 11-bed inpatient ward, mental health consulting rooms, physiotherapy facilities, and a versatile multi-purpose education area. Additional amenities encompass a centralised reception space, laundry and kitchen facilities, and a delivery area. The broader site works also include a new car park, ambulance bay, and staff accommodation.
