Oran Park Studios

In a significant push towards enhancing New South Wales' position as a premier destination for film and television production, nettletontribe is proud to announce our leading role in designing the state-of-the-art Oran Park Studios. Commissioned by Greenfields Development Company, this project is set to revolutionise Sydney’s screen production landscape by addressing the pressing demand for studio space, fostering job creation, and expanding the region's creative capacity.

Shaping the future of NSW film and television

Oran Park Studios located in Greater Western Sydney is strategically positioned to leverage the proximity to the forthcoming Western Sydney Airport. Our design envisions a facility capable of hosting large-scale feature films and television productions, providing ample employment opportunities through both the construction phase and operational tenure of the studio. The comprehensive plan includes three expansive soundstages, production offices tailored to various departmental needs, versatile working spaces, and an extensive multideck parking structure to accommodate the anticipated influx of industry professionals and visitors.

Our engagement in this pivotal project commenced at the initial planning stages, evolving through to the current submission of the Development Application. The cornerstone of our design philosophy is a deep reverence for the site’s rich cultural narrative, which encompasses Oran Park’s storied racing heritage, its natural beauty, and the iconic imagery of the ‘Mad Max’ film saga, a quintessential emblem of Australian cinematic prowess.

Embracing these elements, our architectural design is a tribute to the ‘Mad Max’ aesthetic, weaving its earthy tones, raw energy, and dynamic flow into the studio’s architectural fabric. This harmonious integration not only honours the cultural significance of the film series but also aligns with our vision to create a space that fosters creativity while responding to the functional demands of film and television production.

This project required us to delve deeply into the unique typology of sound stages, addressing acoustic needs, optimising workflows, and ensuring a seamless operational ecosystem, from material delivery to the movement of staff and talent within the space. Moreover, the steep topography of the site posed a significant challenge, necessitating close collaboration with civil engineers to reconcile the existing landscape with the operational requisites of a world-class production studio.

Security and the safeguarding of intellectual property stand at the forefront of our design strategy. By crafting discrete pathways for talent and implementing robust boundary protections, we aim to safeguard the creative process while enhancing the overall aesthetic and functional quality of the studio complex. Our holistic approach combines high-end security measures with architectural innovation, creating a safe and inspired environment for creative endeavours.
