240 Sandgate Road
Previously a TAB building, 240 Sandgate road is now a grand and sleek contemporary workplace.
The refurbishment of the TAB building will transform a tired 1970’s landmark Brutalist building into a sleek contemporary office building of its time.
The forty-metre-high modern building, towering over its low-rise surrounds generates a considerable presence along surrounding streets. Its transformation started with the removal of the existing horizontal precast bands which blocked the beautiful views of the city beyond.
They were replaced with a large, tinted glass wall, which is more appropriate for the southern side of the building. Consequently, the office from this side of the building will be flooded with lovely natural daylight as the glass is full height.

Along the Northern facade, the existing concrete spandrels were also removed and replaced with tinted glass but in this case, a sill at 900mm was retained to reduce direct sun-entry into the office space. Also, a sun-shading device was added at 2700mm to additionally reduce direct sun entry. The outcome of these initiatives is a cleaner more streamlined contemporary urban façade but responds to the building’s orientation and climate.
